Since picking up the trumpet at age 7\, his artistry has allowed him the opportunity to perform in all corners of North America as well as overseas. \nFrom maintaining years of performance residencies\, curating special events throughout the city\, and serving as a booking manager at multiple venues and spaces\, Sam Thousand has become a fixture in Chicago’s performing arts scene. He’s been a full-time artist & curator since 2014. He is co-founder of the Chicago-based arts organization ChiBrations\, and is a business owner and entrepreneur. DESCRIPTION:  \nThe South Side Pie Challenge\, an annual autumn competition and fundraiser\, features amateur bakers seeking to test their pie-baking prowess against their neighbors competing in four categories: fruit\, nut\, cream and sweet potato or pumpkin pies. \nThe judging\, done by a team of professional pastry chefs and pie-lovers\, will take place at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club. \nOn November 5\, 2023 following the competition that afternoon\, neighbors are invited to Hyde Park Neighborhood Club\, 5480 S. Kenwood Ave.\, at 2:00 pm to sample all the goodies for $5 per slice. \n \n
